What is your excuse for not exercising? Is it no time, tired from work, the kids, or in pain? Unfortunately, those are all great reasons (excuses), but instead of justifying the reasons, let’s grab your sneakers and a light sweatshirt and let’s get walking!
Best of All – Free Membership!
While some fitness enthusiasts relentlessly seek out the latest, trendiest exercise crazes, many others are returning to good, old-fashioned walking to help them feel great and get into shape without becoming a member of an expensive gym. Best of all except for a good pair of walking shoes, it requires virtually no equipment. So whether enjoying the wonder of nature or simply the company of a friend, walking can be a healthy, refreshing experience. And thanks to its convenience and simplicity, walking might be right for you, too.
Walk Like You Own It!
A sedentary lifestyle has a debilitating influence on people’s health as they age; therefore exercise is imperative.
Check off all the great benefits to walking:
- Improves cardiovascular endurance
- Tones muscles of the lower body
- Burns calories: about 80 if walking 2 miles per hour, and about 107 if walking 4.5 miles per hour
- Reduces risk of heart disease
Sport The Right Shoes
The first item of business when beginning your walking program is to select the right pair of shoes. Too many people choose fashion over function when purchasing running shoes, not realizing that poor-fitting shoes can do more than hurt their stride; they can also lead to pain throughout the body.
- Make sure the shoes you purchase fit properly. The balls of your feet should rest exactly at the point where the toe end of the shoe bends during walking.
- Select shoes with plenty of cushioning in the soles to absorb the impact.
- Shop for sneakers at the end of the day or after a workout when your feet are generally at their largest. Wear the type of socks you usually wear during exercise.
- When trying on shoes, be sure to wear them for at least 10 minutes at the store.
Once you have purchased a pair of shoes, don’t walk them into the ground. While estimates vary as to when is the best time to replace old shoes, most experts agree that between 300 and 500 miles are optimal.
Goal For Success
Walking just 12 minutes every other day can offer important health benefits. But to increase your longevity, try to work up to 30 minutes, five days per week. Experts generally agree that to be considered “active,” adults should try to take 10,000 steps each day. Wearing a pedometer is an easy way to track your progress. Follow these great tips to start strong and stay strong:
- Move your arms freely, in coordination with the opposite leg.
- Stop staring down at your phone. This posture change will have you looking up and around, and unplugged from stress. The simple head posture shift will also take the pressure off your joints that are causing you to carry your weight improperly.
- Don’t carry weights or dumbbells while walking. They’re better used as a separate part of your exercise regimen.
- Expect a little soreness in the thighs and calves for the first week or two. If you experience more than soreness, check with your chiropractic physician.
- Walk briskly, with “purpose.” Simply sauntering, while relaxing and enjoyable, is not an effective form of cardiovascular exercise.
Of course, be sure to consult your medical practitioner before beginning any rigorous exercise program.
On The Right Track
Follow these surface choice tips to maximize the benefit and reduce the chance of injury:
- Walking on a cushioned or rubberized track is ideal, because the cushioning of this type of track absorbs most of the impact of your walking. Many recreation centers offer this type of track free of charge.
- Grass is another good surface, but watch out for hidden dips or holes in the ground.
- Walking on a surface with no give, such as concrete or a mall floor, is not your best choice, because this type of surface will not absorb much of the impact your body will experience. If you do choose to walk on such a surface, be extra careful to select highly cushioned shoes.
Take Your First Step Here!
We want to help keep you moving in perfect balance to maximize the benefit and help to avoid low back hip or knee pain. So as you lace up and head for the open road make sure to call and get a checkup for top performance.

We very often hear people talk about “getting sick.” I would like to suggest that it is more of a case of you “doing sick.”
Sickness, disease, a cold or the flu are each far more related to what choices you make each day. Bad luck, and “catching a bug,” are not really what happens. After all, people around you often do not “catch” the same bug that you did, even though they touched the same door knobs and breathed the same air.
The secret here lies in your immune system. If it’s working right, you can breathe in dangerously bad germs all day long and not get sick.
The Secret To A Healthy Success
One secret to your over health success is your immune system. Your immune system has an enormous role in your health that it can affect every cell in your body. Your superhero immune system must not only protect you from coughs and colds but also to fight against cancer, repair damaged joints and regenerate properly aiding in the slowing of the aging process.
Let’s Take Action!
This month let us all commit to making ourselves a little healthier by choosing one or more of these healthy habits to harvest the rewards of an incredibly healthy fall season.
Rake In The Benefits With These Great Tips
- Sleep at least seven hours each night: Better sleep means a healthier immune system. Remember our brain and body recover from the day’s stresses while we sleep.
- Get Adjusted: Have you and your family’s spine and nervous system checked because your immune system is run by your central nervous system. Chiropractic kids are freakishly healthy — This is one great reason why!
- Avoid Sugar and Snacks: Especially sugary, salty or fried foods, or foods with pesticides or preservatives in them. Limit the added sugars where you can. Steer your family towards fruit and vegetables instead. Get creative and save time with power smoothies.
- Reduce Dairy: Try using almond or rice milk instead. Take any child with asthma or ear infections off of dairy, and they improve – just about every time. Add in some adjustments and the healing is even faster.
- Regular Exercise: Make sure you and your kids exercise each day. Want to make it one step better? Add a little workout in the morning before school or work that is fun. It will get your lymphatic system moving which makes for a healthier body.
- Avoid Medications and Let Fevers Ride: When you or your children do get colds, do not immediately lower the fever. When children have a fever, comfort, and love on them, and monitor them closely, but try not to break the fever. The fever is the body’s way of combating the “bug” and learning how to protect itself in the future from the unwanted invader. Far too commonly, we see that persons that use fever-reducing drugs often seem to have colds that last for a week or longer.
- Eat Breakfast Every Morning: That’s why they call it “breaking the fast,” so get your day started with a healthy meal.

Are you kicking yourself about falling off the “New Year’s resolutions” bandwagon? Have your goals and promises fizzled out by week 3? Are you heading for a repeat of aspirations that will either be forgotten or the same lame excuses made about why you couldn’t achieve what you wanted?
If so, turn your phone notifications off and read on…
Success is Planned
As all great success warriors know, true success is planned. They know that success is not usually obtained overnight nor by chance. So they carefully calculate and plan their success; beginning with the end result in mind.
With the new year just passing, we would like to share five valuable lessons that we had learned about turning goals into reality. These are wonderfully outlined here as shared to us by Robin Sharma.
Valuable Lessons For Success
1. CELEBRATE
The first step is to take some time to sit down quietly and look back upon 2015 and think about all the things that happened this year. Write an inventory of successes, wins, achievements and magic moments, big and small, that you had over the last 12 months. When doing so, remember we have all had set-backs but the more you think about all of your wins the more you will start to notice how great 2015 really was.
This exercise will help you build confidence, energy, and appreciation for your life.
2. EDUCATION
Take time to reflect. What are the 3 best lessons that you learned from this past year? What were you doing when you achieved your best results in 2015?
With better awareness, now you can make better choices in 2016 and achieve better results.
3. CLARIFICATION
As Robin Sharma says, “Clarity precedes mastery”. Get very clear about what needs to happen for you to have the best year ever in 2016. These goals need to be crystal clear to be able to set action steps.
When you have a target to aim for your excitement for the year and all the greatness that you will achieve is produced as you are approaching and hitting the mark.
4. GRADUATION
Take your goals that you’ve just set and graduate them into a plan. Make sure to take your goals and chunk them down into a month by month or even smaller achievable and motivating plan.
5. VISUALIZATION
Your mind cannot tell the difference between reality and visualized experience.
Have you ever thought about a time when you were really upset or angry and your physiology changed as it was like you were living the event over again? This is because your mind is so powerful that it creates the reality that you perceive it to be. It is also the secret of all Olympic athletes as they visualize their race with the outcome they want.
Be careful what you focus on and think about because most often it becomes your reality.
Visualizing your life as you want it to be, ties you to it emotionally and it engages your senses.
Take 5 minutes every morning and visualize your day with color, details, and clarity. With practice you will be able to visualize your month and wonderful year. If you believe it, you will see it.
Get Ready For Great Results!
We know that if you take these 5 steps and put them into action in 2016 you will most definitely have the best year of your life. Guaranteed!
