New Fairfield CT Asthma Relief: Breath-Taking Statistics and Natural Solutions

Asthma Relief New Fairfield CT

As healthcare costs and chronic conditions climb, one concerning trend is particularly striking—asthma cases have surged by over 60% since the early 1980s. In the United States alone, asthma-related deaths now approach 5,000 per year. Here in New Fairfield CT, many families are seeking alternatives beyond inhalers and medications to manage this alarming condition. The good news? Natural, drug-free options may provide meaningful relief.

Asthma on the Rise: What’s Behind the Epidemic?

Years ago, it was rare to know a child with asthma. Today, entire classrooms include multiple students with inhalers. Environmental allergens, household chemicals, poor indoor air quality, and processed foods all contribute to this trend. According to experts, our hyper-sanitized, over-insulated homes may ironically be making us sicker by trapping pollutants and increasing allergen exposure.

Modern stressors also play a role. Life events like moving, changing jobs, or emotional upsets can trigger or worsen asthma attacks. And let’s not forget about dietary and pharmaceutical contributors—preservatives, antibiotics, and even over-the-counter medications can exacerbate symptoms.

Natural Ways to Breathe Easier

While asthma cannot be cured, it can be managed. Alternative treatments like chiropractic care, acupuncture, breathing exercises, massage therapy, and yoga can complement traditional care and significantly improve quality of life. In fact, Australian research has shown that chiropractic adjustments may reduce asthma symptoms and stress hormone levels in patients.

Chiropractic care in New Fairfield CT offers more than pain relief—it focuses on nervous system balance, respiratory muscle coordination, and whole-body function. A chiropractic neurologist can evaluate posture, spinal health, lifestyle factors, and neurological patterns to identify and correct contributors to asthma flare-ups.

10 Tips for Asthma Management

  • Use air filters to improve indoor air quality.
  • Encase mattresses and pillows with hypoallergenic covers.
  • Treat underlying infections or conditions that may worsen asthma (e.g., sinusitis, reflux, flu).
  • Avoid asthma-triggering medications like NSAIDs and beta-blockers.
  • Work with a professional to design a safe, personalized exercise plan.
  • Eliminate foods with sulfites and MSG—common asthma aggravators.
  • Consider a plant-rich, anti-inflammatory diet and reduce animal proteins.

Help Improve your Breathing with Chiropractic Care

New Fairfield Improved Breathing

Lung function is a good measurement of the overall health of an individual. A study was conducted on 58 patients to determine how cervical knee-chest adjustment influenced pulmonary function. Forced Expitatory Volume in one second (FEV-1), and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) were measured before care and two weeks after care on a computerized spirometer.

Analysis of the spirometry measurements revealed statistically significant changes in FVC and FEV-1. Of the 58 patients, 33 (57%) were considered to have “abnormal” lung function before care. The rest were within the normal range. After receiving chiropractic treatment the abnormal group showed the greatest increases in FVC and FEV-1, over the two week study, with average increases toward 9% and 8%. The “normal” group also showed increases in just two weeks under chiropractic care.

The studies show that chiropractic can go a long way to restoring lung function. Visit our office to see how we can help you!
